AN award winning Bangor artist has unchained his talent to take part in a top art event.

Work by sculptor, painter and print maker David Bower is being featured in the prestigious Royal Cambrian Academy annual Summer Exhibition, 2019.

His latest work “Chain,” is a 14ft shredded paper sculpture made especially for the exhibition.

David said of his work: "The chain concept is a universal symbol. In this case, it derives from my thoughts on how so many eminent artists, some of whom belong to the academy, who have had input into my oeuvre over the years, passing on their teaching, thoughts and wisdoms, enabling such a “chain”of events, culminating in this sculptural piece.

"The “chain” does not end there, but carries on connecting with the viewer or with those who identify with its ideals and concept."

David, who is 67, is the son of the late Raymond Bower, a former editor of the North Wales Chronicle. He is married with two children and two grandchildren Born in Rotherham, he has been resident in Wales for the past 54 years.

His work is in private collections in England, Scotland, Wales and in New Zealand.

David was accepted as a full member of the Royal Cambrian Academy in 2017. The organisation is dedicated to furthering art and supporting artists in Wales. Its gallery depends on visitors, friends and the art buying public for support. The summer exhibition offers a chance for members to show off their latest works.

The exhibition runs from July 20 until September 7, at The Gallery, Crown Lane, Conwy. It is open from 1am - 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday, and closed on Sundays and Mondays.
