A LARGE gathering of people came together at one of Wales' most important ancient sites on Anglesey for a dawn ritual to mark the Summer Solstice (today) Friday.

Bryn Celli Ddu - the mound in the dark grove - is considered spiritually significant as during the longest day of the year - Friday, June 21 - a shaft of sunlight is aligned with the burial mound passage and illuminates the chamber inside.

Druids and others who follow ancient Pagan customs gathered at the late Neolithic monument for an annual ceremony and celebration.

Prehistoric Bryn Celli Ddu and its surrounding area has been used as a ritual landscape covering more than 5,000 years of human activity.
