TALENTED youngsters have been able to show off their skills at a popular annual event.

The Ruthin Town Youth FC primary scools tournament was held on Saturday.

This year’s tournament was again sponsored by Trefor Jones Menswear and, as usual, it was played at the Lon Fawr pitches.

Whilst it was delayed by a week due to the recent heavy rain, the weather was kind on the day, which once again proved to be a massive success.

As is always, it's the case that someone wins the competitions, but the real winners on the day was everyone who took part in an enjoyable, friendly atmosphere, playing at the very least three games each, with many talented boys and girls showing off their impressive skills.

The year four and under winners were Rhos Street, while the years five and six event was won by Dreigiau Pen Barras, both truly worthy winners who had several outstanding players playing for them.

At the semi-final stage of the younger competition, Ysbrydion PB played Llanbedr, with Arwyr PB facing Rhos Street.

Llanbedr gave a great account of themselves against a good Ysbrydion team, who in the end won through to the final fairly comfortably.

Their goals were scored by Jacob Lloyd, Eban Iwan and Carwyn Williams.

In the other last-four clash, Isaac Williams' hat-trick and one apiece from Elliott Lewis and Nathaniel Grant allowed Rhos Street to beat Arwyr Pen Barras.

Watched by a big crowd, the final turned out to be a tight affair between two evenly matched teams and with defences being generally on top.

Dean Goodman made a couple of brave saves in the Rhos Street goal, before Isaac Williams popped up with a great headed goal with only two minutes left to play.

This proved to be the winning goal to help Rhos Street claim this age group for the second year running.

The semi-finalists in the years five and six competition were Dreigiau Pen Barras, Mellt Pen Barras, Ysgol Dyffryn Ial and Rhos Street.

In a tight game, the Pen Barras derby between the Dreigiau and Mellt ended 0-0, so it went to penalties to decide who went through to the final.

Dreigiau went through by a narrow 4-3 margin thanks to successful kicks by Dyfan Jac Thomas, Sion Williams, Isac Gwyn and Wil Henry.

The Mellt scorers were Cian Jones, Iwan Glover and Gwydion Lloyd.

The other semi final between Rhos Street and Dyffryn Ial was played in a great spirit, with both teams going all out to attack!

Rhos Street managed to come out on top thanks to good strikes by Morgan Lloyd Thomas and Christian Gordon Astbury.

Dyffryn Ial’s Wil Morris caused all sorts of problems for the Rhos Street defence, but he was kept at bay thanks to some great last ditch defending.

Whilst the Dreigiau PB had misfired slightly during their semi final they came to life in front of goal against Rhos Street in an exciting final.

Dafydd Edwards had already hit the bar before he slammed home a right-footed shot after two minutes to put the Dreigiau boys ahead.

Isac Gwyn scored soon after and Dafydd Edwards added another late on to make the final score 3-0 to Dreigiau PB.

Jack Taylor Sullivan played exceptionally well in goal for Rhos Street, preventing at least another two or three shots from hitting the target.

The match had everything - good goalkeeping and defending, good passing and team work, along with great forward play.

The trophies and medals were presented to all the finalists by Tudor Jones, of Trefor Jones Menswear, who are the regular sponsors of the competition.
