PWLLHEL’s two lifeboats were launched into a rough sea following reports of a boat adrift on Father’s Day.

Both the inshore and all weather boats were launched on Sunday evening June 16 to investigate reports of abandoned rigid inflatable boat between Pwllheli Golf Course and Carreg Y Defaid.

Both boats sailed to the area and conducted a shore line search along the coast to Llanbedrog. The D Class lifeboat, Robert J Wright, searched approximately half a mile offshore while the all weather Mersey class lifeboat sailed a parallel course further out to sea.

After liaising with Holyhead coastguard, Abersoch Coastguard team and Criccieth Coastguard team, the teams decided the boat had drifted and come loose from its mooring in nearby Abersoch.

Both boats returned to station and were refuelled and ready for service again at 22:30. All in all, eight fathers turned out to this evening's service, from boat crew to shore crew.
