THE hills are alive with the sound of, No, it's Welsh!

A mountaineering and outdoor leadership business is offering Welsh learners the chance to develop confidence in the language whilst walking in Snowdonia.

Stephen Jones, from Dyffryn Ogwen, founder and chief activity leader of Anelu – Aim Higher, is leading mountain walks for learners to boost their confidence in the language.

He said: “Mountain walking coupled with conversation whilst exploring Snowdonia is an excellent way for Welsh learners to integrate in to the Welsh speaking community and get to know Snowdonia landscapes and heritage."

Gwynedd-based Menter Iaith Hunaniaith is Anelu’s partner in the project. Its language development officer Ifan Llewelyn Jones said: “One of Hunaniaith’s aims is to integrate Welsh learners in activities in their communities, giving them the opportunity to chat to Welsh speakers in a supportive environment. Welsh speakers are welcome to come along.”

A walk from Tanygrisaiu, Blaenau Ffestiniog, through Cwm Orthin to Croesor, is on July 8 and one from Bethesda to Llanberis is on July 10. For details contact: or call Ifan on 01286 679 452.
