HOLLYWOOD A-lister Naomi Watts has sent her support to Anglesey ahead of a major international football competition.

The famous King Kong star and two-time Oscar nominee has sent her best wishes to the island where she spent some of her formative years whilst growing up.

The move comes ahead of the Huws Gray Ynys Mon 2019 Inter-Island Games Tournament being held from June 15 - June 22.

Naomi is president of the Glantraeth Football Club, one of 11 clubs selected to host matches during the annual tournament.

She sent a video message of support, which has been published on the Ynys Mon Island Games Association Facebook page over the weekend.

The world-famous actress spent three years on the island as a child and attended school in Llangefni before going on to become a major movie star.

In the video she said: “As president of one of the tournament’s host clubs, Clwb Pel-droed Glantraeth, I just wanted to wish everyone the best of luck. “I hope the games go really, really well and that everyone has fun.

"I’m sending so, so much love – Wales is just such a special place in my heart and I say hi to everyone there and [I hope you] enjoy!”

Wales Assistant Manager Osian Roberts has also this week been confirmed as an official ambassador for the Huws Gray Ynys Mon 2019 Inter-Island Games Football Competition.

A veteran of the island games, Roberts has since gone on to stardom within the Wales National Team set-up, as technical director at the FAW Trust and playing a pivotal role in helping to guide the Men’s National side to celebrated success.

The Anglesey-native will also be involved in a question-and-answer session at the tournament’s opening ceremony at Holyhead Leisure Centre on Saturday, June 15. Visit North Wales Chronicle to see the video.
