RESIDENTS campaigning against the inclusion of a proposed Gypsy Traveller site in a Wrexham village are being encouraged to attend a public meeting.

The meeting has been called to discuss preparations for those who have indicated a wish to speak at the pre-hearing with the Local Development Plan (LDP) Inspector at Wrexham Guildhall on June 25, before the public examinations start in September.

Russell Evans, chair of the Llay Action Group said: "Anyone who has objected to the proposal and said they want to speak at the public examination will have had an email or letter, telling them that it is important that they attend the meeting of June 25 for them to know what to do and ask questions.

"The letter goes on to say that anyone intending to go to that pre-hearing should register that intention with the inspectorate by June 11, which is next Tuesday.

"We have therefore called a meeting in the British Legion for Thursday, which will take the form of a drop in session where we will have people on hand to explain the importance of continuing the pressure right up to the public examination in September."

Wrexham Council submitted its Local Development Plan (LDP) suggesting possible sites for new development to the Welsh Government towards the end of last year.

Many of the concerns raised centred on the scale of development, as well as the potential location of three new Gypsy and Traveller sites in Brymbo, Hanmer and Llay.

After the pre-hearing on June 25, the full hearing sessions are then due to start on Tuesday, September 3 with the local authority saying it is an opportunity for members of the public to make their thoughts known.

The public meeting will be taking place at Royal British Legion on Thursday between 6.30-8pm.
