WREXHAM schoolchildren have had their achievements recognised at a glittering awards ceremony.

The Enrichment Programme awards were held at William Aston Hall at Glyndwr University, which recognise the achievements of the hundreds of pupils who took part.

The Enrichment programme is a partnership between St Christopher's School and Coleg Cambria, and allows pupils over the age of 14 access a range of courses, including horticulture, engineering and animal care.

Enrichment co-ordinator Steve Stockdale, who is also a teacher at St Christopher's School, the largest specialist school in Wales, said the awards were great recognition for the students.

He said: "Every school has pupils who can benefit from Enrichment and at present we are working to coordinate the activities of over 300 students to make sure they can achieve at something they have a particular interest in. It's challenging and extremely rewarding work.

"They've all done very well and it's been a real pleasure getting to know them and see how their courses have kept them on track to leave school with at least one relevant vocational qualification."

The awards ceremony last month featured special guests on hand to give out the awards, including former Mayor of Wrexham, Cllr Andy Williams.
