Glyndwr student's work to feature in Brazilian exhibition

Hannah Doran, from Bridgend, will take part alongside fellow students in the annual Final Degree Show which the university runs at its Regent Street campus in Wrexham.

However, at the same time she will also be making the final preparations for displaying a video artwork at FILE, the biggest festival of art and technology in Latin America. The FILE festival has taken place in a series of locations across Brazil, with Hannah exhibiting her work in Sao Paolo’s Sesi Gallery of Art between June 26 and August 11.

She said: “I discovered an Open Call for the festival through a website called Art Rabbit. This was back in October and round then I was working on a lot of video art experiments. I submitted one of my videos – a piece called Six Feet – and they came back to me to say they wanted to include it in the video art section of the festival!”

Hannah’s success in securing a place at FILE has been followed with another coup, after she was chosen to be an invigilator for Wales’ entry into the Venice Biennalle – also taking place over the summer.

She added: “It is quite crazy to think that a video I was working on last Autumn will now be on display in Brazil this summer. I would – of course - like to go and see my art on display there but I don’t know whether or not that will happen!”

Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Science and Technology, Professor Alec Shepley, said: “By the time Hannah finishes her study with us, she will be part of a Welsh delegation of artists to Venice – and exhibiting her work at a leading Brazilian festival. We’re delighted for her success and that we have helped to encourage and develop her talent during her time studying with us.

“There’s also a chance to see her work at our annual Degree Show at our Regent Street campus, which is open to the public from June 3 until 14 - alongside pieces by students from a wide range of our arts courses.”
