SEVERAL charities have received donations following a recent charity day at a Wrexham garden centre

Wrexham Erddig Inner Wheel held the event at Bellis Brothers Garden Centre in Holt, with Nightingale House, Pedal Power and Wrexham Maelor Renal Unit the chosen charities.

Stephen Lacey, the renowned garden writer, gave an inspirational talk entitled Real Gardening to a large audience and there were many valuable ideas for creating a satisfying, atmospheric and beautiful garden.

Barbara Reeves, Secretary of the Inner Wheel said: "All were very appreciative of his advice and enjoyed the meal in the Strawberry Fields Restaurant.

"The three Presidents of the club each chose a charity close to their hearts to benefit from this event and three cheques of £500 were recently presented to Nightingale House Hospice, Pedal Power and Wrexham Maelor Renal Unit, respectively.

"We are particularly grateful to Stephen Lacey for giving his time to speak to us, and to Bellis Brothers for the support they gave to this event."

Pedal Power is a cycling service based at Alyn Waters Country Park offering fun, therapy and achievement for all abilities. The variety of specialist bikes and trikes help many people with different abilities and health conditions to exercise, achieve goals and have fun whilst doing it. The Renal Unit are hoping to buy a new reclining chair for the added comfort of transplant patients.

Sheila Meadows, of Pedal Power said that she was particularly grateful to receive the kind donation because the organisation receives no other funding and it is very expensive to buy and maintain the bikes.
