A CHIRK charity is holding a special event in June to mark its 50th anniversary.

The Chirk Hospital Circle of Friends are holding a Celebration Flower Festival on the weekend beginning Friday, June 21 at St Mary's Church.

Various local groups and organisations will be contributing with flower displays based on the theme of 'Celebrations' while Pentre Ladies Guild will be depicting the role local miners played in building the first cottage hospital.

The Flower Festival will open at 10am with prayers and blessing being given by Rev Matt Wilkinson and will be open to view until 6pm.

This will be followed with a special concert at 7.30pm featuring Cor Meibion Dyffryn Ceiriog, tickets at £6 are available from Fine Things Chirk, or by calling 01691 772082, 01691 773642 or 01691 772321.

The Flower Festival will continue on Saturday, June 22 from 10am - 6pm and Sunday, June 23 from 12 noon - 4.30pm , concluding with a Songs of Praise Service at 5pm.

Refreshments will be served in the Church Hall throughout the Festival and also on sale will be a special booklet on the history of Chirk Hospital and the part the Circle of Friends has played in it over the past 50 years which has been complied by Graham Greasley.
