A TOWN centre event made a real splash over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Rhyl High Street was the stage for a day of sea-themed, Mayor’s May Day fun and games.

The Rhyl Town Council-organised community event included giant beach patrol stilt walkers, comedy trawlermen, traditional seaside games and crafts, and a ride dubbed the slowest on earth.

A special surfer, face-painting, and music from the Ghostbuskers community choir, which includes members from Rhyl, completed the line-up.

This is the second time a Mayor’s May Day has been held in the town and marks the end of the current year in office for mayor Cllr Win Mullen-James.

Cllr Mullen-James said: “The Mayor’s May Day attracted hundreds of people into the town centre and our beach patrol and trawlermen acts were able to stride out further afield, welcoming visitors to the promenade and surrounding areas.

“With all the activities free, the event had something for everyone including the slowest ride on earth – a special lifeboat made of hammocks which gently turns and spins.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my year in office and this event has been a great way to thank the people of Rhyl for their support, so it was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the fun and games.”

The next major Rhyl Town Council event will be a circus-themed day of free activities which will be held on the high street on Saturday July 13.
