THE 'blitz spirit' will be in full swing once again on the home front this weekend.

The clock is set to be turned back once again to the inimitable style and panache of the 'Greatest' generation, when Colwyn Bay's Forties Festival returns once again on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday 28 at 10am until 4pm.

Now in its eighth year, the event has become the centrepiece of Colwyn Bay's calendar, with 2018's event the biggest date, seeing people come from all over the country to get in on the fun.

Ahead of the 75th anniversary of the D Day landings in June, there is no better place to experience the sights, sounds and tastes of Britain during World War Two.

From ration book cookery to vintage clothes, uniforms and vehicles, everything 40s will be proudly displayed throughout the town.

To bring the town's war time history back to life, the, festival will be opened by Colwyn Bay mayor cllr Steve Williams and 'Winston Churchill' at the top of Penrhyn Avenue at 10am on Saturday.

Cllr Williams said: "It's such a great event, it's so interesting to see Colwyn Bay as more than just a coastal resort and to get to see it as it was.

"Colwyn Bay was so important to the war effort, with things like 'Dig for Victory' and the Metropole on Penrhyn Avenue having huge significant.

"Not only can people can people learn something special about our history, but it's great fun - and free!"

Also on Penrhyn Avenue, there will be a Messerschmitt Bf 109 German fighter plane and an M10 American Tank on Penrhyn Avenue, as well as a 25 gun salute from re-enactors in full period costume at 1pm on both days as well as Air Cadets on hand to give budding pilots a chance to take to the skies with their flight simulator.

On Sunday at 3pm, there will also be a battle re-enactment at Parc Eirias.

However, its not all about stiff upper lips and remembering to 'Keep Calm and Carry On', the two day event celebrates the enduring appeal of 1940s fashion, hairstyles and spirit.

The Festival will include cookery demonstrations and food producers from the area showcasing their vibrancy with a wartime culinary twist.

Throughout both days, there will be authentic music from the Quaynotes, Lili De Carlo and the George Formby experience, as well as special one off performance from Russian all female act Kolinka.

Returning for 2019 is the electrifying Ballroom Blitz Dance at Rydal Penrhos School Hall on Saturday, April 27 at 7pm.

Familiarise yourself with the high-spirited dance crazes of the era, such as the Lindy Hop in a setting that authentically captures the atmosphere of 1940s London.

Featuring the Llandudno Swing Band, playing the hits of Glen Miller,Count Basie and Artie Shaw and all your favourite melodies, come along in costume and jive the night away to the authentic sound of a live swing band.
