A CALL for volunteers to help clean two beaches on the Llyn Peninsula has been made by community activists.

The beaches are at Porth Dinllaen, Nefyn and at the Warren at Abersoch.

Organiser Phil Higham said: “Having visited these beaches for a number of years I’ve noticed the amount of plastic waste has been increasing and dramatically affecting the environment, particularly for the damage it does to sea birds and fish. It also spoils people’s holidays.”

He added: “Both are free events and will be a lot of fun for everyone and are suitable for all ages, although under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. We are providing all the equipment needed and have arranged with Gwynedd council to collect and recycle everything we find.

“We are aiming to get 100 volunteers at each event. The Warren Holiday Park and the Ty Coch pub are supporting the events with the promise of drinks and refreshments for all volunteers.”

The Porth Dinllaen event will be held on Sunday May 26, starting at 3.30pm, and the meeting place will be on the beach by the Ty Coch Pub.

The event at Warren beach will be on Wednesday May 29 starting at 10.30am on the beach outside the café.
