AN ANGLESEY bee farmer swapped her overalls and wellies for a designer ball gown and sparkles during a prestigious award ceremony in Cardiff.

Katie Hayward, of Felin Honeybees, honey farm and education centre, at Cemlyn, Cemaes, was named as a 'highly commended' finalist in the first Welsh Women's Awards on Wednesday.

She attended a glittering ceremony at the Coal Exchange, in Cardiff, during the event which celebrated the achievements of exceptional women in Wales.

Katie Hayward, known locally as the 'Queen Bee of Anglesey,' said: "What a lovely time at the awards and I am very honoured to bring home to Anglesey the 'highly commended' award in the Welsh Women's Awards

"I’m still in shock to be recognised like this, it is so humbling as every women in that room was amazing and a winner.

"The heels are now off and the wellies are back on but my memories of the evening will have me smiling for weeks to come."
