YOUNGSTERS from Gwynedd and Anglesey have won the Elementary Section title at the 2019 National Youth Brass Band Championships.

Under the leadership of conductor Lois Eifion, the Gwynedd and Môn schools junior brass band were given a 'Gold Award' by judges during the competition held at Warwick School.

The band was the only one form north Wales to take part but beat off competition from seven other bands from across the UK in what was their first ever visit to the renowned competition.

To add to their success, the Senior Band lead by conductor Dylan Williams also came home with a Silver Award.

Both bands are part of the Gwynedd and Anglesey Schools Music Service which delivers music lessons as well as band and ensemble opportunities in schools across both counties.

Ann Jones, Manager of the Schools Music Service, said: “This was an amazing result for us and I’d like to congratulate both bands.

"We are pleased for them all and would like to thank tutors, children and young people who have all worked extremely hard. The success shows the value of providing our children with experiences and opportunities like this – it’s a key part of our mission as a service, and we look forward to seeing much more from this band and all our young musicians in the future.”

On the band’s success, conductor Lois Eifion said: “They’ve worked so hard and I’m very proud of them all – I’d like to thank each and every member of the band. Our aim now is to go from strength to strength and attract new players as the band develops.”

Both bands, as well as the Junior Harp Consort and special guests Côrnarfon will be appearing at the Schools Music Service’s annual concert at Galeri i Caernarfon on the 7th of April.
