A MOTHER of three is appealing for help to find a missing hat she says has “seen her through tough times”.

Andrea Sheardown, from Sandbach in Cheshire, says her woolly hat went missing during a visit to the Sea Shanty in Trearddur Bay on the morning of March 16.

The 47-year-old wants to be re-united with the item as it has a lot of sentimental value and she has kept it for around 12 years. Andrea added that it had been with her through some tough times of late - including during a cancer scare.

“I was diagnosed with a rare bile duct cancer called Cholangiocarcinoma in October 2015 and initially given just six weeks to live,” she said.

“I’ve managed to survive against those odds so far and undergone major surgery to my liver, followed by six months of chemotherapy. My family and positive outlook on life keep me going and my hat has been a big part of that too, as I wore it throughout my treatment process.”

Andrea and her pilot husband Chris, who she met at a wedding reception at RAF Valley over 20 years ago, take their children Amelia, 17, Sam, 16 and Ben, 7, to their static caravan in Trearddur Bay regularly. Her parents live near Valley.

It was during a visit to the Sea Shanty that she had realised she had misplaced her hat.

“We had breakfast there before going to Newborough Beach for a big walk,” Andrea added.

“As soon as we got to to Newborough, I realised I’d forgotten my hat. We later went back to the Sea Shanty but realised the hat had gone.”

Once her cancer treatment was complete, Andrea, who is a magazine editor and runs her own advertising business from home, began giving back to those who helped her by starting her own fundraising mission for the Alan Morement Memorial Fund (AMMF)

“It’s the UK’s only cancer charity for my type of cancer and as this cancer doesn’t show in any routine blood tests, it has one of the worst survival rates.” Andrea explained.

“My hat has kept me warm through my crazy adventures so far which have included taking on the three peaks challenge in thewinter, fire walking, climbing Kilimanjaro and cycling from Vietnam to Cambodia.

“Even my youngest has helped me by climbing Snowdon five times in August when he just turned six.

“Thanks to friends, family, and local businesses, I’ve raised over £47,000 since 2016. My next mission is to climb Everest Base Camp and I really would love my hat back for it. It is a well worn old hat but has certainly been a good luck charm to me.”
