A TEENAGER from Gwynedd is set to represent Manchester United in the national finals of an online gaming tournament.

Josh Jones from Mynydd Llandygai, near Bangor, spends between three and four hours a night playing football-orientated video game FIFA 19.

Now, it looks as though the 17-year-old’s dedication has paid off as he is set to take on some of Britain’s most elite FIFA gamers at the ePremier League Grand Final in London on Thursday and Friday.

Josh knocked out competition from around 2,000 other players to be crowned the Xox One champion at a competition held at Old Trafford on March 4.

He says it's a "dream come true" to be able to represent his favourite team this week.

"It's a great feeling being able to represent the club that I have supported all my life," Josh added.

"I signed up on the website and it asks what team you want to attempt to qualify for and being a die-hard United fan, there was only ever going to be one option for me!"

Josh then played against several other players, from over 10,000 that initially entered the qualifying process on Xbox One, over a 25-day period.

The top 16 players from that went on to compete at United's home ground - Old Trafford.

"Through the initial 25 days, my record wasn’t as good as I would have liked at 75 wins to 17 defeats," Josh said.

"However, that record still meant that I would finish top of the ladder out of everyone. I had qualified as top seed, so then I was invited down to Old Trafford to compete against 15 other players that had also qualified."

When that day came, Josh and his fellow competitors were welcomed in and even taken to pitchside to take a proper look around.

"In my first game I was given a bye, I wanted to play but my opponent couldn’t make it in my second game," Josh continued.

"I ended up winning 6-1 over two legs. Then, it was Semi-final time and I won again.

"After that game, we had to wait for about an hour for the final, where I had to face Tom Stokes, who's a very well-known player. I was victorious in the first leg 3-2 he won the next leg 2-1 and then I won the decider in golden goal.

"Now, I'm going to go to London,do my best for Manchester United and see if that's good enough to help me win the tournament."
