A GROUP of Bangor University students recently stripped to their pants to raise £1684.29 for charity.

70 people doned some special flashy underwear to take part in the ‘Runderpants’ mile, which takes place between Porth Penrhyn and Bangor Pier.

Organised by Raising And Giving (RAG) Bangor's Lucy Best and Joe Graham, the event saw several Athletics Union clubs take part to support the Nerve Tumours UK.

The national charity supports those living with a rare neuro-genetic condition called neurofibromatosis.

It can come in a number of varieties such as type, type 2, schwannomatosis and legius syndrome - all of which can have life limiting effects on a person's life if they are left without a certain level of support in place.

Commenting on the Runderpants event, a spokesperson for Undeb Bangor Students’ Union said: “Thanks to all who came to support the event and thanks to the AU for sending over so may of your clubs to support such a wonderful cause.

“We would also like to say thanks to RAG for organising the event and our sabbatical officers for taking part, especially Muhammad Firdaus who completed the mile in his suit on such a warm day!"

RAG raise money every year for two national and two local charities but continue to do events such as Runderpants in addition to their usual fundraising activities.

This year, RAG are supporting St John’s Ambulance, Headway, Hope House and Alzheimer’s Society Cymru and have raised a further £1111.57 for these charities as well as a huge £5752.03 for the Poppy Appeal.

In total, the group has raised just over £10,500 through their fundraising efforts on behalf of numerous charities and there is still plenty of time to go before the end of the academic year arrives.
