A GROUP of school pupils were among the guests of honour as Co-op unveiled its newest Welsh food store on Anglesey.

Children from Ysgol Goronwy Owen paid a visit to the new purpose built £2m store in their village of Benllech.

Launched on Friday, March 22, the new store is almost double the size of the former shop which stood in its place.

Customers will see continued works in the grounds of the Bangor Road store until early May as the previous store makes way for a dedicated customer car park to serve the new store.

John Jones, Co-op Benllech Store Manager, said: “We have had a great response. We are delighted to have had the opportunity to make such a further significant investment in North Wales – we would also like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding during the extensive programmes of works at the site.

"The new store has a great new look and range in order to serve the needs of our local community. It’s all about getting closer to our members and customers, providing what they want, need and care about, conveniently.

“We also want customers to know that they can become a co-owner and member of their Co-op, and that the Co-op gives back to its Members and the community - our Members help us to make a difference locally, raising money for local causes simply by swiping their Membership card when they shop with us.“

The new store – which is currently recruiting in readiness for increased seasonal trade – has a bakery, Costa coffee dispenser, and an increased range of fresh, healthy foods, meal ideas, award winning wines and essentials.

Students in North Wales holding the NUS Extra (TOTUM) card also receive a 10% discount off their groceries at the Co-op to support them during their studies
