TWO Denbigh sixth formers have been awarded for their dedication to the cadets.

Cadet flight sergeant Philip Wood and cadet sergeant Scott Williams, year 12 pupils at St Brigid’s School, were awarded for their commitment to the school’s Combined Cadet Force.

The pair met Lord Lieutenant of Clwyd, Mr Henry Fetherstonhaugh, who chooses a select number of the best cadets across the region every year.

At the annual awards, held at the Army Reserve Centre in Queensferry this year, the achievements of Mr Wood and Mr Williams were acknowledged as they received a certificate of achievement and lifetime badge, and a badge of office respectively.

Mr Wood, who has been to cadet camps in Scotland, Cumbria and Germany and has climbed Snowdon twice since joining in 2017, was awarded for taking a lead in parades, organising group training sessions and is considered a “role model”.

Mr Williams, who joined the cadets in 2015, is an instructor for first year junior cadets, and took part in the cadet exchange to Canada, titled Exercise Rocky Mountain, during summer last year.

He has also represented Wales in both mountain biking and road cycling.

A St Brigid’s School spokesperson said: “Philip and Scott are great examples of the young people at St Brigid’s School.

“Philip is a resourceful and enthusiastic member of the RAF section. He relishes responsibility and has proven himself worthy of his nomination for the Lord Lieutenant of Clwyd’s Cadet for 2019.

“Scott is an outstanding cadet and, despite his many other commitments, he attends most events. He has served to the highest standard and is worthy of his appointment.”
