A MAN who shouted a tirade of abuse towards police officers whilst on a rooftop in Newborough last December has been jailed.

Thirty-one-year old David Anthony Lewis of Tre Rhosyr was sentenced to 28 months imprisonment at Caernarfon Crown Court following the incident on December 6.

Officers had attended his home address to arrest him as he was wanted by the courts for failing to comply with the requirements of a post custodial supervision order.

As soon as officers arrived to speak to Lewis they were greeted with a torrent of abuse and threatening language.

He refused to cooperate and ran up the stairs before jumping out of the bathroom window onto the roof of the garage.

He stayed on the rooftop refusing to engage with officers and displaying violence and abusive and threatening language.

The incident was also filmed and live streamed onto social media.

Lewis was eventually arrested and taken to Caernarfon Custody.

Since that time he has also been charged with two counts of breaching his criminal behaviour order, two counts of section 5 public order and two counts of taking a photo in a court building.

Anglesey District Inspector Llinos Davies said: “This should have been a simple arrest and transportation straight to court had Lewis have been reasonable.

“This was appalling behaviour which occurred in a residential area which is a mix of elderly residents in bungalows, family homes and a primary school nearby.

"Lewis’s actions that day even caused neighbours to come out onto the street to see what the disturbance was.

“He will now spend the foreseeable future sat in a prison cell and I hope that subsequently during that time, he will be able to reflect on his blatant disregard for authority and look to change his ways.”
