A WOMAN from Anglesey’s love of needle felting has seen her attract commissions from all over the world.

Eileen Williams from Valley first heard of the hobby during a trip to Ireland five years ago.

The art of needle felting involves using special needles with barbs on to tangle scales of wool together. 63-year-old Eileen's latest creation has seen her put together a life like model of an eagle.

The 'skeleton' of the eye-catching bird of prey is made of an armature welded together by Eileen's husband Will and step-son Liam, which the woolly feathers were then worked on to. The skull, beak and claws are made from resin.

The eagle has also been attached to a piece of driftwood, found on Rhosneigr beach, which looks like a rock.

North Wales Chronicle:

Eileen's talent has seen her produce pieces for customers worldwide including in Germany, Australia and the United States through her Facebook page. Her eagle has been requested by a customer from Macclesfield she met at a Birds of Wales competition.

“All in all, I would say that around 156 hours of needle felting has gone into putting the eagle together," she aid.

"I spend four to six hours a day needle-felting and I've created quite a few characters too. I have a few unique commissions coming up but I have to keep those quiet for now!"

As well as other animals such as dogs and hedgehogs, Eileen has also created some famous faces such as late singer Amy Winehouse.

North Wales Chronicle:

“My favourite is my latest creation - the eagle,” she said.

“They can often take a long time to make, but I really do enjoy it. I’m always looking for ways to tweak my creations, but I think this one is pretty much done now.”
