A LEISURE CENTRE on Anglesey was targeted by vandals on two separate occasions this week.

Staff at the sporting facility in Amlwch believe that” thousands of pounds worth” of damage has been done to the building’s conservatory.

Vandals left a big hole in the glass some time between late Sunday night and the early hours of Monday morning, when Crime Scene Investigators were in attendance.

Between 10.15pm on Tuesday night and 7.15am on Wednesday morning, the building was hit again when three vending machines (below) inside were smashed and two cash boxes were stolen. Police attended once again at 7.15am on Wednesday morning to assess the damage.

North Wales Chronicle:

Staff members added it had only been “a couple of weeks” since the leisure centre was repaired following similar incidents in December.

The leisure centre is directly opposite Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones school and is used frequently by pupils for gym lessons.

The Island's Assembly Member, Rhun ap Iorwerth called the situation "shameful".

“It’s heartbreaking to see that vandals have attacked Amlwch’s Leisure Centre for the second time in a week," he said.

"It’s shameful. It’s a valuable community hub, and the result will be to use up scarce resources that won’t now be available to improve services. I really hope those responsible will be brought to justice.”
