A HOSPICE has successfully bid to run a popular Anglesey museum and gallery complex cafe.

St David’s Hospice will take over the café and catering services at Oriel Môn, Llangefni and 'Caffi Dewi' is set to open on Monday, April 1.

With nearly a 100,000 visitors last year alone, the café is a popular part of the Anglesey County Council run site.

The café caters for 100 people, 50 indoors and 50 outdoors, (weather permitting) and is open daily throughout the year, from 10am until 5pm.

With experience of running the café at St. David’s Hospice in Llandudno, the hospice is looking to expand commercial activities in the north west of the region.

Trystan Pritchard, chief executive of St David’s Hospice: said, “We are delighted to have been selected to run the popular café at Oriel Mon.

“The café has a fantastic reputation and we plan to build on that, retaining the existing staff and continuing the high standards both regular customers and tourists have become accustomed to.

“This will be a great addition to Caffi Dewi at the hospice in Llandudno and we look forward to getting started.”

He added, “All profits from the café will be reinvested into providing improved hospice services for people on Anglesey, so this is a very exciting and crucial venture for us.”

Oriel Môn Senior Manager, Esther Roberts, said, “We’re looking forward to working with the team from St David’s Hospice who are enthusiastic and passionate about producing high quality food using as many local, Anglesey ingredients as possible. Food will be fresh, homemade, and served with a welcoming smile.”

She also urges visitors to be patient with the café staff as operators change; “While we transition from one café operator to the next, visitors to the Oriel may experience a limited menu for a few days. We need to refurbish the café area and kitchen as well as arranging training for the café staff.”

“I would like to thank Gwenan Rowlands, of Blas Mwy, who will be leaving the café when the current catering contract finishes on March 31.

"Gwenan and her team have been welcoming visitors with freshly prepared food for a number of years having successfully bid for the contract in 2006 and 2012. I’m pleased that a number of Gwenan’s team will be staying on at the café and wish her all the best in her next venture.”

Councillor Meirion Jones dded, “I’m delighted to welcome St David’s Hospice to Oriel Môn and confident that Caffi Dewi will provide a wonderful addition which will add to the gallery’s appeal. I’d also like to thank Gwenan Rowlands and wish her well for the future.”
