AHEAD of a week of Brexit votes, Plaid Cymru Brexit spokesperson Arfon MP Hywel Williams has called on the Prime Minister to "prove herself worthy" of the office she occupies and protect the people of Wales by voting against "a disastrous no-deal Brexit."

During an Urgent Question in the House of Commons, during which the Prime Minister was absent, Hywel Williams MP further called on the government to follow the example set by ‘hard working, resourceful’ farming communities across Wales who, faced by challenges, rightly change their tact.

On Tuesday, March 2, a second ‘meaningful vote’ on the Withdrawal Agreement and Political Declaration is set to take place.

In the event of MPs rejecting the agreement again, the Prime Minister has promised to bring forward a second motion for debate on Wednesday asking MPs if they support leaving the EU without an agreement.

Farming unions and business representatives have universally rejected the prospect of leaving without an agreement. With 92% of Welsh lamb exports sold to EU countries, Welsh agriculture would be particularly vulnerable.

Mr Williams said: "Tonight I was meant to be meeting the Farmers Union of Wales in Caernarfon. These hard working, resourceful people battle the elements to produce the finest beef and lamb in the world.

"When they find that something they’re doing isn’t working, they do the right thing and change tact. What lesson does the Minister derive for tomorrow’s proceedings from their success?’

Mr Williams added: "People are rightfully sick to the back teeth with the Westminster circus.

"Those in charge have shown themselves to be incapable of taking responsibility, but the Government now has an opportunity to win back some modicum of respect by the people of Wales.

"No deal is a real possibility with very serious and far-reaching consequences for the people of Wales.

"No one voted for food and medicine shortages, no one voted to destroy Welsh agriculture, but that is what will happen if MPs vote for no deal on Wednesday.’
