THE winner of the North Wales Chronicle's Child of the Year 2019 competition was treated to a day out full of treats and prizes last week.

Bethesda schoolgirl India-Anna Kiely spent a very memorable day visiting businesses on Anglesey and in Gwynedd.

Indi-Anna was nominated for the competition due to her selfless attitude towards spending her tenth birthday completing a triathlon to raise money for Ysbyty Gwynedd's special care baby unit.

During her fundraiser on February 17, she ran, cycled and swam her way towards raising just under £1000.

Cheered on by her family, including brothers Patrick, eight, and Jack, four, IndiAnna ran and walked along a windy and rainy route between Zip World to Tregarth, then hopped on her bike from Tregarth to Bangor Quay before swimming laps at Bangor swimming pool.

On her day out with the North Wales Chronicle, Indi-Anna had the opportunity to pet and hold some snakes and feed the mischievous meerkats in Pili Palas, Menai Bridge.

At Anglesey Sea Zoo, she had the opportunity to learn some facts about the crustaceans that live there and was also treated to a free dinner and several gifts.

She was also gifted return tickets and vouchers to the Holyhead Cinema, where she had also received a slush puppy, as well as Greenwood Park and the Caernarfon Play Centre, where she got to spend some of her day out on the rides and slides.

Among some of the others places Indi-Anna visited on her day out with The North Wales Chronicle were Tyddyn Môn and Subway, Caernarfon, which she said was her "favourite takeaway".

Indi-Anna's mum Susan said: "When she saw her Child of the Year trophy she was made up, she said she felt really special the whole day and felt like everyone treated her like she was famous.

"She was over the moon with the gifts she received on the day, as they were very thoughtful, and we're very, very grateful to all of the businesses who treated her so nicely and donated vouchers. We would also like to say to Kerry and Jackie of the North Wales Chronicle, who were lovely.

"She said she couldn't believe that she had had the opportunity to hold the snakes and feed the meerkats at Pili Palas and that she was surprised by how many gifts she received on the day. She had a great day and she absolutely loved it."
