MP ALBERT Owen MP is to lead a high-powered Anglesey delegation at Westminster to discuss the Wylfa Newydd and the Amlwch factory REHAU.

Mr Owen will meet with the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and senior management of the REHAU plastics firm.

The talks follow the recent postponement by Hitatchi of the Wylfa Newydd nuclear development and the proposed closure of REHAU.

The Labour MP, who recently called for a fresh economic plan and strategy for Anglesey and wider North Wales economy, is stepping up pressure on the UK and Welsh Governments for help.

Joining Mr Owen will be Rt. Hon Alun Cairns MP, Secretary of State for Wales, Anglesey AM Rhun ap Iorwerth, Isle of Anglesey County Council leader Llinos Medi Huws, Council Chief Executive Dr Gwynne Jones and County Council members from the Amlwch area.

Mr Owen has also invited representatives from the Welsh Government and the North Wales Growth Bid, as well as business and industry experts.

Speaking prior to the meetings, Mr Owen said: “The Wylfa Newydd and REHAU announcements are devastating blows for Anglesey but the repercussions will be felt across the whole of North Wales.

“I am determined not only to challenge these recent decisions but to use this as an opportunity to move forward and to develop a coherent strategy at all levels of government, both local and national. We really must adapt to this challenging and changing situation.”

“That is why I have brought together representatives from across all parties and all levels of government, including business and industry experts.

"The meetings I have organised are an excellent opportunity to put forward the case for Anglesey and North Wales.

"They are an opportunity to highlight the very real challenges we are now facing and perhaps most importantly, an opportunity to reinforce the very real and huge potential of the local economy which can only be achieved if we get proper help, work together and adopt a united vision."
