THE spirit and colour of Welsh tradition and culture was truly alive and well in Holyhead.

To mark St David's Day, on Friday March 1, a well known Welsh dance group entertained local people.

Mary Parry's Parti Dawns Lan Mor processed through the town in full Welsh costume, complete with daffodils.

With an age range of eight to 83, the popular Holyhead-based troupe walked from Maes Hyfryd to the Beach Hut Cafe and Bistro for a special Welsh lunch.

The cafe went to town with the St David's Day theme flying plenty of Welsh flags and bunting.

After singing and dancing outside the cafe, Mary's group then enjoyed a themed lunch, which included Welsh lamb, leek and potato soup, Welsh Rare-bit, Caerphilly cheese, Holyhead butcher Raymond Jones's Welsh pork and leek sausages, local salmon and there was well Welsh pancakes and Anglesey shortbread for pudding.

Anglesey MP Albert Owen also dropped by to show his support.

The lunch was organised by cafe owner Jason Clixby, helped by his partner Howard Browes.

Mr Clixby said: "It was absolutely fantastic, the girls were very popular. They danced and sang in Welsh in the cafe it sounded amazing. The customers loved it and every table was completely booked.

"We all got into the spirit of St David's Day too and got dressed up. It was great fun and it was very sweet to see the little girls handing out daffodils to the customers.

"We'll definitely do it again next year, people are already making bookings!"

Anglesey MP Albert Owen said: "Once again may I congratulate Mary Parry and her Parti Dawns Lan Mor for keeping the spirit of Diwrnod Gwyl Dewi alive and kicking here in Holyhead.

"Being half term, it makes organising these events difficult, but Mary and her team always deliver with hard work and their pride in all things Welsh."

Mary Parry said: "Holyhead's main St David's Day parade and events are not on the actual St David's Day this year, because of the half term, so we decided we'd like to do something on the day itself.

"People just love to see the girls, dance and sing, in their full Welsh costumes.

She added: "It made so proud of the girls and proud of being Welsh."
