Crew member Evan Edwards was awarded the David Benjamin Jones Memorial Award. The award is given from the crew to a person who has made a great contribution to the station over the previous year.

Evan, who joined the crew around 18 months ago, has successfully been passed out as a driver on the launching tractor, and is now well on his way to completing a crew training plan on both the inshore and all weather lifeboats.

Also awarded during the evening were crew member Derek Denton and deputy launching authority Peter Robinson, for their work promoting the RNLI and safety in the community.

Derek has been the station’s lifeboat visits officer for many years. In this role he gives tours and talks to more than 2,000 school children each year giving beach safety advice.

Peter has travelled around the area and as far afield as Stafford delivering talks on the history of Rhyl lifeboat station, to clubs and other organisations, raising the profile of the station and the work of its volunteers.

Rhyl lifeboat coxswain Martin Jones said: “Our annual crew dinner is an opportunity to celebrate the work our volunteers crew and fundraisers have undertaken in the previous year. It has been a busy year one with the Shannon lifeboat appeal, service calls and events.

“It also gives us a chance to say thank you to all our amazing supporters and especially our families who give up so much of their time for the crew to continue saving lives at sea.”
