A CHARITY football match has raised over £1600 on behalf of a woman from Anglesey who has been diagnosed with cancer.

Late last year, Amelia Page, 30, from Beaumaris, had been suffering with severe stomach pain and had been in and out of Ysbyty Gwynedd Hospital having tests to try and discover the source of the pain.

On December 19, she was told she had cancer in her ovaries. On January 22, following more tests, results revealed that it had spread to her stomach, bowel and pelvis.

She was then given the news that she only had months to live.

To help both her and her family, her local football team, Llangoed FC, organised a fundraising match.

The game, which took place at a windy Tyddyn Paun on Sunday afternoon, saw players from the Gwynedd League side take on #teammeels, with the latter eventually coming away with an impressive 5-4 win.

The home team had been 4-2 up at half time thanks to a Dylan Roberts hat-trick and a goal from Carwyn Williams, who is their top scorer this season.

However, it was strikes from Dylan Williams (2), Callum Graves, Rhys Jones and Lewis Hughes that would prove to be vital in the end as Amelia’s team came out on top.

The money raised on the day came via the burger van which provided fans with food and through a raffle which auctioned off some top prizes, including vouchers and deals for top restaurants based around Anglesey.

Speaking after the event, a Llangoed FC spokesperson said: “The club would like to thank everyone who donated, bought raffle tickets and helped organise the day we can’t thank you all enough.

“The total raised was more than £1600 which is a great effort.”

Corrie Bulloch, who was also instrumental in organising the match, said the main aim was to raise awareness of Amelia’s condition.

“The reason for setting up the charity football match is to raise awareness of the recent tragic news of Amelia having terminal cancer,” she said.

“We wanted to fundraise to help Amelia get private treatment and enjoy her life to the fullest.

“She is the most positive, strong, caring and outgoing person and she loves playing sports, so a charity football game seemed like a great way to get everyone involved, whilst having fun but also raising money at the same time.

“”Everyone in the community has been so supportive and all the local businesses have been great in donating raffles prizes too.”

Amelia’s sister Lucy took to Facebook to thank those who took part and helped raised money. She wrote: “thank you to everyone that came today and made it the best day, it was amazing! To see everyone come together and support us is unreal."

Lucy has said that she will do "as much as she can" to raise money to help her sister in "any way possible to live her best life".

Amelia herself turned 30 last month and her partner Luke, who had moved from Dubai to Anglesey to live with here, proposed to her just two weeks ago.

Another fundraising event on behalf of Amelia and her family, including further auctions, will be held at Carreg Y Bran, Llanfairpwll, from 6pm on Saturday, February 23.

£50,000 of a £60,000 target has already been raised for Amelia and her family via a GoFundMepage. The money raised is helping fund all future doctor's appointments and potential medicines.
