A POPULAR Chinese New Year event returned to Bangor over the weekend.
The annual Dragon’s Parade, organised by the Confucius Institute at Bangor University, was held in the City on Saturday.
Hand made in China, the 14 meters long dragon, joined dancers, drummers and pupils from Our Lady’s RC School to parade down the High Street.
The parade was followed by a Chinese Gala Performance within the Cathedral, where a variety of performances were staged.
Passengers at Bangor railway station were treated to a‘Lion Dance’ performance on the platform. The surprise show saw two dancers dressed in a traditional Chinese lion costume and as a Buddha, accompanied by musicians.
Following celebrations, Our Lady RC School’s Headteacher, Kay O’Hanlon said: “This celebration of Chinese New Year, goes a long way. It inspires and educates and also provides both a local and a global community in which the children can be proud to be a part of.”
