ANGLESEY communities are set to benefit from council grant funding.

Recently, 14 sports clubs and organisations have been awarded cash to help promote sporting activities at grass route level and create opportunities for clubs to diversify.

Anglesey’s Community Chest, a Sports Wales National lottery funded grant scheme, allocated over £19,000 of grant funding at their latest meeting in January, providing support to various clubs and organisations who are involved in sports across the Island.

Cllr Carwyn Jones, Major Projects and Economic Development portfolio holder said, “This scheme is aimed to encourage people to become more physically active and I’m glad to have seen so many sports clubs and organisation take the opportunity and apply for funding.”

“Amongst the applications were many coach education applications to improve the quality of activities and maintain standards within the clubs, many specific equipment requests and also facility hire in order to deliver the sessions, all of which will hopefully encourage more people to become more physically active and contribute to Anglesey becoming a healthier and more inclusive island.”

Owain Jones, Môn Actif Performance Manager added, “2018/19 has been a great year for sport clubs and organisations on Anglesey, with January’s round of funding brining the grand total of funds allocated to over £45,000, highlighting the islands ambition to encourage more of its residents to become fitter and healthier.”

“The grant will be open again in the near future and I hope see even more of the island’s local sports clubs and organisations applying for funding of up to £1,500 to support sport and physical activity projects on Anglesey.”

The closing date for the next meeting is March 29th, with the meeting held on April 9th.
