GWYNEDD Council’s has launched dedicated Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) sections at two libraries in the county.

The sections have been introduced by library services teams at Caernarfon and Bangor to honour LGBT History Month.

The development is part of an annual campaign aiming to promote inclusion and raise awareness of prejudice faced by LGBT people.

Tadgh Crozier who worked alongside Gwynedd Council Libraries, said: “It’s been really positive to work with the team to raise awareness of LGBT history month. It’s great to know that Gwynedd Libraries have recognised the importance of inclusion and are willing to be progressive.”

Nia Gruffydd, Gwynedd Council libraries manager added: “We have worked closely with the LGBT community in the placing of the section and also expanded on the range of titles we already had in stock.

"We were pleased to be able to respond positively to this request and happy to provide a library service that reflects both the needs of our users and society as a whole.”

The new collection includes a mixture of self help books, fiction, non fiction and books by LGBT authors.

The sections will be a permanent feature of both libraries, and as a way of marking LGBT month, rainbow coloured shoelaces will be given out to all who borrow a book.
