A man dropped his appeal against a 16 week prison sentence after he was warned by a judge that the sentence could be increased.

Jamie Andrew Cowall, 32, who had been living with an aunt in Beach Road, Bangor, had admitted breaching a restraining order.

The order meant that he could have no contact with his former partner but police who went to her home found him naked in the under stairs cupboard.

At Mold Crown Court his appeal against a 16 week sentence of imprisonment imposed at LLandudno Magistrates' Court had got underway when Judge Rhys Rowlands told defending barrister Elen Owen that it had been a deliberate breach "completely flying in the face of the court".

He said if Cowall continued with the appeal then sentence was "at large".

The judge said that he took the view that he had been dealt with leniently by the magistrates and there was a risk "of the sentence going up."

Following a short adjournment an application by Miss Owen to abandon the appeal was granted.

Prosecuting barrister Michael Whitty said that Cowall was subject to a five year order under which he was not to approach his former partner.

But on December 29 police went to her home at Dwygyfyllchi and when they eventually secured entry they found him hiding in an understairs cupboard with no clothes on and he was arrested.

He had admitted breaching the order when he appeared at the magistrates' court.
