YNYS Môn’s MP Albert Owen is to hold a meeting with Bangor University’s Interim Vice Chancellor over proposed job cuts.
Mr Owen will meet with Professor Graham Upton the Bangor University’s Council in February to raise Bangor University staff concerns over the negative impact of proposed cuts and job losses. It follow a protest and meeting he attended on January 15.
Students and staff have been protesting against the planned closure of the chemistry department and jobs losses.
The Labour MP said: “I met with students, lecturers and staff who are all very concerned that the cuts will have a negative impact on the University going forward.
“To cut out the only Welsh language chemistry course and downgrade departments is not in the long term interest of the University, a matter I wish to raise with the Interim Vice Chancellor.
He added: “I had a good meeting along with other politicians and will work with all concerned for the good of the University, which is a major contributor to the North Wales economy.”
