STARGAZERS scanned the Gwynedd and Anglesey skies this week to see a highly unusual lunar eclipse.
This shot of the Super Wolf Blood Moon was taken at Ynys Llanddwyn by Paul N Roberts, of LlanfairPG.
During the strange spectacle, seen between Sunday, January 21 and the early hours of Monday, the moon appeared to glow red. An eclipse happens when the moon passes through the earth’s shadow, and the sun, moon and earth line up. The “super” name is given because the moon is near to its closest approach to the earth and seems bigger, the “wolf” describes full moons in January and “blood” because it is red. The next is May 26, 2021.
