MOTORISTS were being warned of temporary lane closures following several accidents on the A55 following the arrival of wintry weather this morning.

North & Mid Wales Traffic reporting delays on the A55 at junction 13, westbound, at Abergwyngregyn due to a collision.

Both lanes were open, but there was a temporary lane closure in place, whilst recovery of a silver hatchback car got underway.

Traffic Cymru Traffic Wales North & Midwales, the Welsh Government's traffic information service reported that J13 at Abergwyngregyn westbound was clear by just after 11am.

As the sleet and icy weather hit the region other accidents were reported.

Earlier, in the mornig, one lane of the eastbound carriageway of the between junction nine and 10, near Caernarfon, was closed following a collision.

A spokesperson for the Welsh Ambulance Service, who attended said: "We received a call at approximately 8:45am to a road traffic incident on near junction 9 of the A55.

"We responded with an emergency ambulance and one patient was conveyed to Ysbyty Gwnyedd, Bangor."

There were also reports of a crash on the A55 near Holyhead and a car skidded into a wall Llandegfan on Anglesey.

North Wales Police took to social media this morning to urge motorists to take care.

In a Tweet they said: "We are getting lots of reports of RTC's due to ice on the roads across NorthWales this morning. Please take care, and drive according to the road conditions."

The MET office has put out a Yellow Weather Warning, affecting most of Britain, with icy stretches likely to form well into Tuesday morning.

Pedestrians were also warned of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces, and people were encouraged to take care on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
