AN ANGLESEY man has “braved the shave” to help raise £1457 for Bowel Cancer UK.

Johan Strydhorst, who lives in Holyhead, says he was inspired to raise money for the charity after reading an article in the North Wales Chronicle.

Aled Evans’ story published on November 29, 2018, saw him growing a beard for the ‘Decembeard’ campaign in memory of his father who died following a six year battle with the disease.

Up on reading the article, 74-year-old Johan decided that he would join in with raising money for the charity himself.

“I’ve had a beard for a number of years but decided I could go without one if it meant raising money for a good cause,” he said.

“I know quite a few people who are living with or have had bowel cancer so the choice of charity to raise money for was clear.”

Johan’s shave took place at a packed Victoria Pub on Christmas Day. He says he is “grateful” to have received donations from the likes of Albert Owen MP, Anwyl Housing and Holyhead Lifeboat.
