A 20 YEAR OLD driver of a Ford Focus who pleaded guilty to causing the death of a nurse in a crash by dangerous driving is to face an additional charge of being under the influence of drugs.
Judge Huw Rees was told this at Caernarfon crown court when Osian Hicks-Thomas of West End, Criccieth, was further remanded in custody pending sentence on February 4.
Judge Rees said the sentence "will inevitably be one of custody - and of some length".
Members of the family of victim Rebecca Edwards, 34, of Llanberis, who was mother of a daughter of 14, and a nurse at Gwynedd Hospital, were in the public seats.
Judge Rees expressed the sympathy of the court.
"No sentence will compensate them for their profound loss," remarked the judge.
The tragedy happened on the A499 at Penrhos, near Pwllheli, on December 21.
John Philpotts, prosecuting, said the daughter would provide an impact statement to the court via a pre-recorded video.
A pre sentence report will be prepared by the probation services for the judge.
