SIXTH FORM pupils at an Anglesey school have been busy contributing to one of the world's most popular websites in recent weeks.

As part of their Welsh Baccalaureate work, students from Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones in Amlwch have been working alongside the WiciMôn Project, adding information to the Welsh Wikipedia.

The youngsters have been learning about what it takes to create articles and then place them on the popular encyclopedia.

Aaron Morris, WiciMôn’s Project officer said: "WiciMôn is one of Menter Iaith Môn’s projects and one of our aims is to raise the status of the Welsh language nationally and internationally by creating new articles that provide information on the historical, scientific and linguistic elements of Anglesey."

The students have been working on several projects, including adding information about the Anglesey Central Railway to the website.

They have been taking pictures of work that has been undertaken on the railway line recently to update the current article on Wikipedia, as there is a gap of ten yeas of lost information.

Walter Glyn, ex-teacher at Syr Thomas Jones is one of the people working on the line in the Llangefni area. He has been helping the students find missing information for their articles.

"We are delighted that the pupils are working with the supporters of Lein Amlwch to enrich and create articles about the Anglesey Central Railway," he said.

"The line was originally opened in 1865 but despite the fact that it closed to passengers in 1964, she continued as a freight train line up to the 1990's. Fortunately, the tracks are still there and are in good condition.

"Significant work has been done on the line in recent years in the hope of re-opening the train line so it's good to see an enthusiastic group from Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones jumping on the opportunity to update the line’ history online!"
