AN ANGLESEY history group's book is set to capture Amlwch's past for future generations.

Volunteer history group Grwp Hanes Y Llan, has been awarded £1,500 funding to help publish their book ‘Un Tro yn Amlwch’ (A Long Time Ago in Amlwch).

The group spent months visiting the elderly people in their homes and held open afternoons capturing historical and personal stories from local characters.

The bilingual book, giving an anthology of stories about the town and reminiscences from old, will also be used as resource in history sessions in local schools.

Funding for the project has come from the Magnox’s socio-economic scheme.

Stuart Law, Wylfa site director, attended the official book launch and said: “We are pleased to be able to support this local community project. The group’s commitment has captured the legacy of Amlwch’s history which is now documented for future generations to read.”

“Through funding such projects, Magnox is helping to mitigate the socio-economic impact of decommissioning Wylfa and ensuring sustainability within rural communities.”

The book is available to purchase or order for £10 with all profits going towards publishing a second edition and second volume. Please contact 07488581506 to order a copy.

A member of the group, Mrs Lilian Hughes added “Un tro yn Amlwch would not have been published without the generous support of Magnox and others.

"We hope that people will enjoy reading about the history and reminiscences of the people of Amlwch. We believe that it is important to collect and record these memories for future generations."
