GOLFERS swung into action to raise £705 for a new hospice unit at Holyhead

Holyhead Golf Club and its members raised the cash towards the St Davids satellite unit providing end of life care on Anglesey.

Allan Walker, club captain for 2018, chose St David’s Hospice as his charity of the year, in recognition of the valuable service it will bring to the Anglesey community.

The charity, which strives to make end of life care available to all across North West Wales, plans to unveil the new four-bed inpatient complex next year.

The building work is set to start in April, 2019, in a converted ward at Penrhos Stanley Community Hospital,.

The cheque was presented to the St David’s Hospice Anglesey Area Fundraiser, Ella Baxendale at the Golf Club’s AGM on November 29.

The money was raised throughout Mr Walker’s term and includes proceeds from an annual charity day.

Ella Baxendale said: “We were thrilled to have been chosen as Holyhead Golf Club’s Captain’s Charity of the Year, not only for the fact that the amount raised will certainly be a great step towards reaching our fundraising goal for the new Hospice, but also for the members’ support as without the backing of the local community the work we are undertaking would simply not be possible”.
