THE way to stop "Brexit madness" is clear according to Arfon MP Hywel Williams

The Plaid Cymru Member of Parliament was responding to the European Court of Justice decision on Article 50 revocability.

The court this morning confirmed that the UK can revoke Article 50 and stay in the EU without other European countries’ agreement.

Hywel Williams MP, Plaid Cymru’s Brexit Spokesperson, who has supported the case, said the European court’s ruling means there are “no legal barriers left to a People’s Vote”.

The Arfon MP wrote a sworn statement (known as an Affidavit) for the case and worked with the lawyers that took the issue first to the Scottish and then the European courts.

He also points out that new polling, released this morning, by YouGov/ITV/Cardiff University shows a clear majority for remaining in the European Union now exists in Wales 54% remain - 46% leave.

Hywel Williams MP said: "Last week I described the non-binding opinion of the European courts top legal adviser as a game changer. Today’s decision shows the game has now firmly changed.

“There is a clear way out of this Brexit madness. A People’s Vote can now be held with the clear understanding that remaining on the same terms is an option.

“The fantasyland Brexit promised by those campaigning to leave has crashed up against the solid brick wall of reality. Now we know the truth about Brexit, people must be given the right to decide whether the reality of leaving the European Union is what they want.

“Today’s ruling confirms there are no legal barriers left to a People’s Vote.

“Polling today also confirms that Wales would vote remain if another referendum is held.

“With political gridlock in Westminster, we must put it to the people. What are the Brexiteers so afraid of?"
