AN ANGLESEY Town is hosting a baking bonanza in aid of various projects throughout today.

The "Great Amlwch Christmas Bake Off" is taking place this afternoon/evening and celebrity chef Ellis Barrie, who appeared on BBC show 'The Great British Menu', will be taking part once again.

Ellis, who runs the award-winning Marram Grass restaurant in Newborough, will be judging some of the cakes made for the competition - just as he did at the previous event in August.

Back then, a similar competition saw people of all ages enter a number of different categories and produce a range of fabulous treats.

All cakes and biscuits produced on the afternoon were then used for an afternoon tea for local elderly groups and the remainder were taken to the local old people's home.

Organiser Tony Fitzmaurice said: "This time around we're raising money for the The Amlwch Community Christmas lunch and the Amlwch Men’s Shed.

"We have Ellis Barrie here once again and we're also bringing Nina Evans Williams (Mon Cottage Cupcakes) back too.

"The art of baking was close to disappearing, however, due to the popular TV show it is starting to become a bit of a popular hobby once again, so we jumped on the band wagon and hopefully have inspired a new generation of bakers."

Nina has donated a spectacular elephant shaped cake to the raffle which will be taking place tonight. Pop along to the event for your chance to win it!
