A YOUNG man from Anglesey has become the first ever candidate to be chosen to represent the island on the Welsh Youth Parliament this week.

Ifan Erfyl Jones was elected into the position at the Welsh Assembly on Wednesday.

Ynys Mon Assembly Member Rhun ap Iorwerth was quick to praise heap on the Ysgol David Hughes pupil, saying: "This is a hugely exciting time for politics in Wales and I’m sure Ifan will be a strong voice for Ynys Mon’s many passionate young communities.

"I would like to say a huge congratulations to him on being elected."

In November, Mr ap Iorwerth chaired a hustings session for Ynys Mon’s seven Welsh Youth Parliament candidates at the Menai Science Park in Gaerwen and says he "thoroughly enjoyed" meeting them.

“I told them all that you have to be brave to stand an election and the privilege of being able to stand is something I hope all seven candidates have enjoyed.

“Certainly I very much enjoyed meeting the candidates, and from my discussions with Ifan at the hustings, I’m sure he will be a strong representative for Anglesey.

“All seven are winners in the eyes of Ynys Mon though as their ambition and enthusiasm to represent their fellow young people is commendable and they should be applauded for that.

"I look forward to working with Ifan in the future and wish him well in representing the island’s fantastic young people."

Brengain Glyn Williams was elected to represent Arfon and Ifan Price was elected on behlaf of Dwyfor Meirionnydd.
