STUDENTS got a rare chance to discuss "Brexit" with an MEP during a trip to Brussels and Antwerp.

Business students from Gwynedd and Anglesey who are on Coleg Menai courses, visited the European Parliament in Brussels.

They met with Dan Dalton, MEP for the West Midlands, to hear opinions on how Brexit could affect the North Wales economy. They also visited some of the world’s largest businesses.

The students who are following A Level Business and the Business Level two and three courses, toured the Port of Antwerp, where they learned about the supply chain and logistics at the world’s largest port.

They also went to Coca Cola European Partners where they were shown how one of the world’s most iconic brands operates from innovation to production, packaging, distribution and marketing.

Their discussions included trade, supply of labour, foreign investment, agriculture and the port of Holyhead.

Carwyn Jones, business lecturer said, “Students were truly inspired by Dan Dalton and his experiences as an MEP, especially as he started out as a professional cricketer.

"They all came away feeling so much more informed about what lies ahead following Brexit, and they have taken a great deal from this excellent opportunity.”

Karen Griffith, programme area manager said, “Our trip was made possible due to kind sponsorship being made available from Dr Kay Swinburne, MEP.

"This is the sixth such trip we have organised in recent years and, in total, over 200 students from Gwynedd and Anglesey have been able to visit the European Parliament at Brussels and Strasbourg.

"It is a great shame that future students will not be afforded the same learning opportunities when the UK leaves the European Union. All our students came back enthused, highly motivated and determined to achieve in their courses and succeed in the world of business.”
