A GROUP aiming to collect Christmas gifts for hospital patients say they have surpassed the original target they set for themselves.

On Monday, the Bangor University Nursing Society team, who arranged the ‘Presents for Patients’ project, held an event at Fron Heulog, Bangor, in order to collect donations.

Residents popped along to the site to donate gifts which will now be distributed to hospitals across north Wales for patients who will be staying there over the festive period.

Organiser Amy Hughes said: “Last year, we managed to collect 120 presents. This year we were aiming for 200 but upon counting this year's donations, it looks as though we could potentially be hitting 250 which we're very pleased with."

Ynys Mon MP Albert Owen, who also attended the event, added: "I was pleased to be able to join the student nurses and make a donation.

"Being in hospital at Christmas can be a difficult time so these gifts to patients will make a real difference.

"I'd like to thank the Nursing Society for their kindness and hard work.”
