A CAFE that supports the lifesaving work of a Welsh air ambulance charity is flying high after winning a top award.

Caffi HEMS, at Dinas Dinlle, near Caernarfon, which funds the Wales Air Ambulance, won the Best Social Enterprise Café in North Wales for 2018, by the SME News organisation.

Caffi HEMS, is run by the Wales Air Ambulance and all profits fund its helicopter operation.

The cafe's name is inspired by the charity’s role in the field of Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS).

Taryn Bennett, Caffi HEMS manager, said: “This has to be one of North Wales’ best kept secrets, having a panoramic view of the coast. We are at the heart of Caernarfon Airport and you can watch the Wales Air Ambulance helicopter, Helimed 61, and other aircraft departing and arriving, while enjoying delicious local produce.”

Lynne Garlick, WAA North Wales fundraising manager, said: “Since the launch of Caffi HEMS in 2015, it funded the equivalent of over 100 lifesaving missions. Winning the award is testimony to the hard work of volunteers and staff."

The cafe is open all year round from 9am - 5pm, Monday - Saturday and 10am-5pm on Sundays.
