ICONIC Welsh singer-songwriter Cerys Matthews is set to perform live as a narrator during a brand new ballet production in Bangor.

A Child’s Christmas, Poems and Tiger Eggs by Dylan Thomas, is being presented by Welsh dance company Ballet Cymru, at the Pontio arts and entertainment centre.

The ballet is on at the Theatr Bryn Terfel, and the show also includes accompaniment by jazz musician of the year Arun Gosh (Parliamentary Jazz Awards 2018).

Ballet Cymru's interpretation of the Dylan Thomas classic A Child’s Christmas In Wales, features evocative costumes, and choreography by Creative Wales award winner Darius James and Amy Doughty.

According to promoters, the show is a chance to step into the imagination of a genius, and the audience is taken on a journey through "snow, cats and melancholy."

Ballet Cymru bring to life this timeless Christmas story using the company’s blend of classical technique and storytelling.

Cerys Matthews said: “Dylan Thomas captures something so special in his 'A Child’s Christmas.’

"It is a story of expectation and belonging, that sense of wonder one feels in the festive season wherever you’re from.

"Here we have a perfect foil for the award-winning choreography of Ballet Cymru, and together they gift the world a fresh new winter ballet.

"I'm thrilled with the production, and doubly so, as I’ll be joining them live on stage for five of the shows to narrate some Dylan classics."

There will also be an opportunity for the public to meet with Cerys during the interval when she will be signing copies of her album Dylan Thomas – A Child’s Christmas, Poems and Tiger Eggs.

The show is on at 7pm, in the Theatr Bryn Terfel, Pontio, Bangor, on Saturday, December1. Tickets are £13/£11 concessions. The show includes explosive dance, physical theatre, classical ballet. Age guidance 7+
